I just wanted to post this here about the spirit.
quote :This substance, the SM, that destroys the first form of gold introduces a second more perfected form that is not possible in nature without aid. So since there are hundreds of astral spirits or intelligences that attend to nature\’s processes, so then lets define this particular spirit that we are after , it was represented by the ouroboros, or the serpent or Saturn/Kronos that is, it is responsible for the cyclic patterns in nature, that is why the best times to collect him are spring and fall like the classics speak, in the spring he comes and exhales and everything is greened and vivified but not just the plants that feel his influence, the animals themselves, have, by the astral pattern of their living spirits taken on the same pattern, and whats more this spirit is needed for physical procreation, thus we can see in nature this is the time when all animals reproduce. In the fall this spirit inhales and reaps all that has come here to be cocted and cooked, here I mean all the physical suffering and hardship but also love which the geniuses of these living spirits carry back with them, so this is the time that everything turns red and whithers. The next move of the spiritus mundi is to prepare the ground for the following spring, thus he moves once again and putrefys what was living, which acts as a living compost, now winter freezes this spirit that he leaves there, of course each successive rhythmic cycle produces more potent offspring , that is, it is evident that nature is attaining to something profound…perfection. Each species becomes more fit that the previous generation, but here again I ask where is this spirit that remembers and sets the pattern for adaptation if not in the spiritual realm, here in particular the anima mundi.So,….. in the alchemy, like when I mentioned Fulcanelli\’s passage above:
But what we ask for, along with all the philosophers, is not the union of a metallic
body with a metallic spirit, but rather the condensation, the agglomeration of this spirit
into a coherent, tenacious and refractory envelope, capable of coating it, impregnating all
its parts and quaranteeing it an efficacious protection. This soul, spirit, or fire assembled,
concentrated and coagulated in the purest, the most resistant and the most perfect of
earthly matters, we call it our stone
Here the \”coherent, tenacious and refratory envelope\” that keeps this spirit fixed in this world must be the perfected sulfur of gold, since it can be the only physical substance pure enough to allow the spirit to remain there, the mercury of gold on the other hand has to be that which the SM acts on and continues its evolution above this realm, but while maintaining the other qualities he mentions..fusibilty, resistant to reducing agents and fixity this he stresses right before where he says\”
But since these tenuous, extremely subtle and volatile spirits need a vehicle, an envelope capable of holding them back; since this mater must be very pure —
to allow the spirit to remain there — and very fixed so as to prevent its volatilization;
since it must remain fusible in order to promote ingress; since it is essential that it be
absolutely resistant to reducing agents, we may easily understand that this matter cannot
be searched for in the sole category of metals.
So how can we be sure when we have condensed or attracted this spirit if it actually contains the spiritus mundi? Of course by his action will be evident, because gold is of the nature of spiritus mundi he will melt in him like ice in warm water w/o any chemical effervesence or exothermic heating. Whats more the same patterns he displays in nature will take place in our globe, the little one in which we work, and it will play out there as a microcosmic mirror of the greater world, we will see greening as GL has displayed, this is the primary movement of the SM , the spirit that has left gold after its perfection in the mines enlivens it now and spreads it out into a vegetative state, after a while, a blackening or putrefaction will occur and all the subsequent color changes we are all familiar with from reading the classics , and the result?…….A more perfected form than what was possible alone in nature, with the grosser elements impeding, but also a more potent form capable of asserting itself upon the lower world in a multiplicative power, so in a word, an evolution, represented in this sense as a phoenix. And that is not it, the wheel is made to turn once again, the SM is once again applied and the same exhalation and inhalation occurs again up to seven or nine times, we see all the color changes which are evident of his movement up onto his completion, but in a shorter time. Of course all these works is preformed by the matter itself w/o any imposition of the hand, so we can see then that all the operations that the philosophers spoke of in allegorical form are accomplished by the spirit and the spirit alone . So once we have the SM then it all really does become child\’s play, that is why it was said that, this \”water\” was the one that without, nothing in the art could be done. So they all hid the condensation or attraction of this water in allegorical form or choose not to speak of it all and instead started their treatises right at its application, since a true philosopher has already recognized all of this and has contemplated it well.its from here post number 46.

This is another interesting discussion on the spirit and limestone. Read rogerc\’s post..
